York Care Centre

The Centre for Innovation and Research in Aging (CIRA), is a leading New Brunswick research organization focusing on aging health and quality of life for senior populations. Located on the campus of York Care Centre, which houses New Brunswick’s largest long-term care facility, CIRA is partnered with innovators, research organizations, and academics from across Canada. 

The Research Therapist will be part of a research team implementing the study “Home-based and residence-based virtual reality training to increase rehabilitative exercise in seniors”, funded by the New Brunswick Healthy Seniors Pilot Project. Participants will be adults over aged 65 who are recovering from illness and/or injury and are receiving Extra-Mural rehabilitation services. The Research Therapist will be responsible to create safe and challenging virtual reality programs for participants, either in their own home or within their long-term care facility. This would include creating the programs, training the participants and monitoring their progress.

As the optimal candidate, you will be a Rehabilitation professional.  You will have obtained a Kinesiology Degree or  Occupational Therapist  or Physiotherapist, and preferably up to 3 years of professional experience (preferred experience working in at least one of the following: long-term care, homecare clients, and/or working with frail older adults). Experience in clinical research is considered an asset. You will also be familiar with gaming, technology, hardware and software, able to problem-solve technology installations and have experience with MS Office. You will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with participants, other therapists, research colleagues, and the media. The ability to prioritize multiple tasks, organize your own workload and meet deadlines is essential.

Note: This position requires flexible hours and some traveling (mileage will be paid). The successful candidate will be bilingual (French/English). The candidate must provide documentation of TCPS-2 training within the past 5 years or be willing to complete this requirement before the anticipated start date.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

The Centre for Innovation and Research in Aging (CIRA), is a leading New Brunswick research organization focusing on aging health and quality of life for senior populations. Located on the campus of York Care Centre, which houses New Brunswick’s largest long-term care facility, CIRA is partnered with innovators, research organizations, and academics from across Canada. 

As a member of the research team, reporting to the Chief of Research Services, you will be responsible for providing assistance/support in the planning, preparation, and execution of all aspects of the research program. Such decisions must ensure that CIRA /York Care Centre remains a ‘Centre of Excellence in Aging’ by confirming that the research is, evidenced based and can be demonstrated as meeting the needs of our senior populations.

As the optimal candidate, you will have a Bachelor’s Degree in health science or a related field, demonstrated experience in the field of research, and proven knowledge of MS Office and statistical software. You will also possess strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal, skills and the ability to multi-task and work independently. Valid driver’s license required as some travel is involved.

Activity Coordinator

York Care Centre currently has a full time Activity Coordinator position available within our Therapeutic Recreation department.

The primary purpose of the position is to plan, develop, organize, implement, and validate Therapeutic Recreation Programs designed to meet the social, cultural, recreational, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of the residents of York Care Centre.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, organize, promote, and coordinate individual or group activities such as daily activity programs, outings, special or seasonal activities, etc.
  • Collect information on resident’s capacities, limitations, interests and adapt activity programs accordingly
  • Assist residents with personal hygiene and with meals
  • Prepare daily, monthly, and annual reports on resident’s participation and progress with the activity programs

Qualifications:

Successfully completion of Bachelors degree with specialization in Gerontology or successful completion of the Therapeutic Activity Professionals course.


Environmental Attendant

Part-time, Non-Guaranteed

At present, we are currently seeking applicants for the position of Environmental Attendants. In this position you will be a part of the Environmental Services Team in ensuring a clean, safe and functional environment. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

•    Cleaning and sanitizing assigned rooms, bathrooms, common areas, surfaces and equipment

  • Performing floor maintenance (sweeping, mopping)
  • Performing functions associated with waste management
  • Communicating with residents, families, team members and/or other departments in a courteous and professional manner
  • Participating in all required in-service/on-line education programs

•    Evaluating and maintaining resident safety needs

As the ideal candidate you will have attained your high school diploma or equivalent.  You must be physically able to perform the assigned duties, have a good previous work record, be capable of carrying out the required duties, and be able to work collaboratively and communicate well with others.  With a positive and professional style, you are accustomed to taking charge of your work activities and completing tasks in a timely and flexible manner.
